“I can’t see,” Ellie complained, and I rolled my eyes at her from over my phone.

“What exactly do you need to see?”

“Your texts! I know you’re texting him.” She pouted, waving her phone at me. “Ban hasn’t texted me.”

“You took his number, remember,” I scoffed, dangling my legs over the edge of her sofa.

It had been a couple of days since I’d spent the night with Ted, and he’d been surprisingly interesting to talk to.

“He’s got a kid,” I sighed as Ellie sat up.

“No way! You fucked a dad?!”

I cringed at her choice of words but nodded.

“I guess so. She’s three.”

“He’s like, what, twenty-eight?” Ellie mused, swiping through her phone. “So, are you going to see him again?”

I paused when the door opened, revealing a wet Logan. My heart hammered in my chest when he tugged off his t-shirt, throwing it into the kitchen.

“Why’d you go out in this weather?” Ellie asked, shaking her head at him.

“I went for a run,” Logan replied, walking back in with a towel around his neck. “Then I got piss wet through.”

I stared at my phone, trying not to stare at his skin that glistened with rain, the way his ink-black hair contrasted his steel grey eyes.

He looked like he’d been made for me.

“Are you going out tonight?” Ellie asked, looking up at Logan.

“Nah, I’m trying to be healthy,” he admitted, leaning on the sofa behind me.

“Really?” Ellie snorted, dropping her phone onto her lap. “So, you don’t want pizza?”

I shot her a look that she ignored, and Logan shrugged.

“I dunno. Raff’s coming round, and you two are awkward as fuck.”

“We aren’t!” Ellie protested as Logan, and I made eye contact, and my stomach tensed.

How can one look make me tremble like that?

“Why the health kick?” I asked, staring back at my phone.

It was the first time I’d addressed him since I saw him in the club, but he stood, stretching his arms above his head.

“I dunno, I need to, I guess.”

“If you’re serious, you know me and Mum will help you,” Ellie said quietly, looking up at her brother with hope.

I felt like I shouldn’t be there, so I made an excuse to make a drink in the kitchen.

I left the two of them talking and filled the kettle with water. Jeff, the family cat, rubbed against my feet, purring loudly.

“You hungry?” I asked, reaching down to scratch behind his ears. He pushed his head against my leg, meowing in response.

“He’s always hungry,” Logan said from the doorway, his eyes trained on me.

I lifted, opening my mouth to speak when Logan walked over to me, pinning me to the counter with each hand on either side. He gazed at me, lifting a finger on his lips as he searched my eyes.

“Don’t say anything, Jess. I just want…fuck, I don’t know. To be near you.”

I can barely breathe.

He looked down at me; his bottom lip dragged in by his teeth as he studied me.

“You’re so fucking beautiful, do you know that?” He whispered, resting his forehead against mine.
